Kathy Sucich investigates the latest challenge to the Alcohol Industry – the changes in consumer behaviour induced by the increasing usage of GLP-1 to suppress appetite.
It is becoming apparent that these drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy, part of a class known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, are affecting the quantities that people drink, as well as delivering their primary function: to suppress users’ appetite for food.
With 12% of adults estimated to have taken a GLP-1 drug in May 2024 and the indications pointing to an uplift in that percentage since then, Kathy sets out what impact this is having and how best to go about measuring it.
