My colleague Paul Duggan at Dynamic Business Informatics shares his ideas on how to interface with Sharepoint and incorporate some useful tabular web data into a Diveport embedded within Sharepoint.
PART 1 – SHAREPOINT INTERFACE AND USING TABULAR WEB DATA
If, like many organisations, you use Sharepoint you might like to incorporate your Business Intelligence dashboards and reports within the Sharepoint user interface to make access even more straightforward for the user.
All report and dashboard content from the Diver Solution can be included seamlessly in a Sharepoint Site by means of the Page View Web Part. Above is a screenshot of such a site which we created for demo purposes. In this case we used the example of an airport management portal.
The external and surrounding page elements are from Sharepoint – the internal Flight Arrivals and Departures dashboard is served by the Diver Solution via a Web Part (displayed in “Embedded” mode). Since the Diver Solution supports Single Sign On this is completely transparent to the user.

Dive to Further Levels of Detail
One of the useful features of this embedded portal is that it provides real-time information on Flight arrivals and departures. In the screen below you can see how it is possible to interact with the screen and dive to further levels of detail.
HTML Import of Tabular Data Table
It was possible to create the portal that we embedded in Sharepoint as the Diver Solution can be configured to create Real-Time content based on live data feeds. Below is an example of an HTML import to Excel from a website that holds the tables of information required. This import is iterated as frequently as required and Diver incorporates the new information.
The Diver Solution supports active loading of data and immediate access to this data. Models and reports based on real time data feeds can be created in the Workbench IDE using Diver’s Tunnel capability to connect directly to source data for real time access or alternatively to frequently extracted data (e.g. every 10 minutes).
The examples above show a typical dashboard which can also be displayed on a large screen and configured to refresh as frequently as required. As the large screen display is not designed to be interactive, the reports can be configured to cycle through a number of pages, displaying each page for a specific time interval. For example, the Dashboard for Terminal 1 could be displayed for 2 minutes followed by terminal 2 for two minutes, then back to Terminal 1 and so on.
Diver supports design features useful for large screen displays such as Large Font sizes and Bold White text on a Blue Background for legibility at a distance.
Mobile Display of Diveport Information
All Diver Solution content delivered through DivePort may be accessed on Mobile Devices such as mobile phones and Apple and Android (and Windows) tablet devices. Where the display size is suitable, normal reports can be viewed on a phone or tablet, including full interaction features such as criteria selection.
Additionally, mobile specific content can be designed & deployed for mobile/tablet screen sizes and usage scenarios. Page & font sizes can be adjusted to work optimally for users who need to access data quickly on the move.
For example, the following Dreport/web page is designed to display stats for the Top 10 Airlines Plus others in a compact, easy to consume format ideally suited to mobile devices.
Embed Related Information of Interest
Finally, in this example we also demonstrated other possibilities for combining more information of interest within the framework of Sharepoint, such as the flightradar24 live flight tracker which is accessed via the navigation pane on the left of Sharepoint, along with the other pages shown above.
